And don’t miss the fun activities we have planned:

  • Family Outdoor Storytime – Join us outside each Wednesday to read animal books. Space is limited, so please RSVP each week for your family’s spot. If you miss it, you can watch the recording on our Facebook page.
  • Library Lawn Scavenger Hunt – Can you find all the animal print-outs hiding outside on library grounds? Pick up your scavenger hunt sheet at either service desk. When you return the completed form, you’ll receive a small prize.
  • Weekly Animal Trivia – Check our Facebook page each week for a new animal trivia question (you can also turn in your guess at either of our service desks). All correct answers will go into a weekly drawing for a $5 food gift card.
  • Guess the Tail from the Tale – Guess the children’s book animal characters from pictures of just their tails! Everyone who completes the quiz will be entered into the drawing for a drawstring bag containing a puppet, coloring book, and crayons!
  • StoryWalk® – Stop by the library anytime to read an interactive story that walks you around the outside of the building. Everyone who completes the brief survey at the end will be entered to win a youth gift basket donated by Warm Glow Candle Company. (The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.)
  • Silly Sidewalk Obstacle Course – Any time you visit the library, you can hop, jump, and stomp your way through our sidewalk obstacle course!
  • Adult Crafts – Adults can pick up a grab-n-go bag with a different craft and coloring sheets each week, while supplies last! Check out our Facebook page each week to see the new craft and share a photo of your completed project.

STEAM Activity Kits

The Centerville Public Library now has STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Kits for young patrons to borrow with their library card. We have added six kits, three that should interest children in PreK – Grade 3, and three that should appeal to older students in grades 4 and up. These kits can be checked out on a Centerville library card for one week, with one renewal (limit one kit per family). We ask patrons to please return these kits to the Youth Services desk or to a staff member during a curbside visit – please do not put the bags in the book drop.

We’re excited to offer these hands-on activities to our patrons. Each kit contains one book and various activities to help kids learn and grow. Reserve a kit today through our online catalog. Or stop by the Youth Services Department.

Current Kits for PreK-Grade 3:

  • All About Dinosaurs
  • I Love Animals
  • Trucks & Tools

Current Kits for Grades 4+:

  • Electronics, Coding & Bots
  • Examine Science & Nature
  • Machines & Contraptions

We hope to add more kits in the future, so stay tuned!

Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium Book Club

Centerville Public Library is excited to announce we have joined other Indiana libraries in a consortium-wide book club. In this online community, part of the Evergreen Indiana Library Consortium, readers will connect with each other and community members to read and discuss books related to lifelong learning, social issues, literature, psychology and other user-submitted ideas.

And it’s free!  Just get a copy of the book from a preferred source.  Free eBooks are available for download for patrons of Evergreen Indiana public libraries, and patrons can also borrow the book in print or audiobook form from their local Evergreen Indiana library.

The consortium-wide book club for adults is reading and discussing “The Queen’s Gambit: A Novel” by Walter Tevis through May 20th. This coming-of-age novel is the source for the Netflix limited series.

Members can discuss the current book and network with each other on a private online forum. The group will spend about two months on each book, so patrons will have plenty of time to read.

It’s Tax Time!

Update 3/12/21: Federal tax forms and booklets have arrived and are available at no cost.

———————–

Please note, the library will NOT be receiving any state tax forms this year. The Indiana Department of Revenue has informed all libraries that, starting with this tax season, it will no longer provide state income tax forms or state booklets for libraries to distribute to their patrons.

“DOR is encouraging all customers to file electronically to reduce errors and speed up the processing time for returns. Over 2 million Hoosiers may qualify to file their federal and state taxes electronically for free with the Indiana Free File program which can be accessed online at freefile.dor.in.gov.”

The library expects to have federal tax forms soon.

Below are links to help you locate and print tax forms. If you need additional assistance, please make an appointment to visit the library and we can assist you with printing at a cost of 10 cents per page.

From the Director: Fire Suppression Project Underway

To All Centerville-Center Township Public Library Patrons and Supporters,

Beginning on the First of March and continuing into the month of April, we will be starting the first phase of our renovation project. This will involve the installation of a fire suppression system which will make our library a safer space. As this will be an extensive project which will cover the entire interior of the library, our hours and services may vary until the project is completed. I do apologize in advance if this interrupts your usual use of our facilities and materials but rest assured that, as soon as we are able, we will be resuming regular operations. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at read@centervillelibrary.info or give us a call at 765-855-5223. We remain dedicated to serving our community through this part of the project and we will certainly make every effort to continue providing the same service that the members of this community have come to expect.

Stay tuned to our website or Facebook page for important service announcements as the project progresses.

Centerville Public Library Offers Mobile Patron App

Evergreen Indiana Logo

Evergreen Indiana, of which the Centerville Public Library is a part, recently announced the release of a dedicated mobile app for both Android and iOS devices. Centerville Public Library cardholders may search the Evergreen Indiana catalog and manage their accounts from their phone or tablet.

Features of the app include the ability to easily place and manage holds, check what items are out on your account, check and pay fines, and get information about participating libraries, such as mapped locations and hours. App users can add the accounts of other members of their household, making it easy for parents to manage children’s accounts as well.  The app also includes a digital replica of the library card barcode, which can be used at the library checkout desks.
