Full Job Description
We have an opening available for a Library Assistant. Under the direct supervision of the Director, staff members will perform customer service and related duties as assigned by the Director and staff management.
Principal Responsibilities:
Checking materials in and out
Registering applicants for borrowers’ cards
Pulling holds for patron use
Explaining lending rules
Collecting fines and providing accurate change
Answers telephones; transfers calls to appropriate areas
Helping patrons find items
Verbally promoting upcoming library programs and new services
Assisting with program duties
Helping to prepare arts and crafts materials for programs
Sorting and shelving materials as needed
Shelf-Reading and organizing library materials
Following opening and closing procedures
Other related duties as needed
Requirements:
Previous customer service experience.
Friendly, outgoing attitude and ability to handle difficult or tense customer service interactions.
Ability to quickly learn and use needed computer software and telephones.
Great work ethic, always looking for something to keep busy.
Must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, carry up to 20 lbs, push/pull carts of library materials, type proficiently, see average-sized font on computer screens and printed materials, and accurately count money.
The applicant must be least 18 years of age, with high school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred).
Work Schedule:
Part-time, between 20 to 30 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required.
