Commonly Asked Questions

Here are our most asked questions at Centerville Public Library. If you have a question not answered below, please contact us via our online form or call us at (765) 855-5223.

How can I place a Hold?

While in the online Evergreen catalog, you can request that a book be held for you.

Search until you find the item you are interested in, then click on the “Place Hold” link. Enter your card number (or username) and password. Confirm your notification settings and click “Submit.” You will receive an email, phone call, or text (depending on your settings) when the book has arrived at Centerville and is ready for you to pick up. You will have one week after being notified to pick up your item before it is sent back to its home library.

Please note, holds cannot be placed on other libraries’ books that are less than 6 months old.

If the book you want is not owned by any Evergreen Library, ask the staff at Centerville Library to request the book for you from libraries beyond Evergreen. There is no fee for this service, though occasionally there is a minimal postage fee.

Library materials circulate for one, two or three weeks:

    • Books, audio books and music CDs check out for three weeks.
    • New adult fiction, magazines and comics check out for two weeks.
    • DVDs check out for one week.
    • Downloadable e-books and audiobooks check out for one to three weeks, according to the patron’s account settings.

Items may be renewed two times per checkout, except DVDs and new books, which renew only once. Centerville Public Library has an automatic-renewal system. This means eligible items will be renewed automatically on the due date without staff or patron intervention.

If you have given us your email address, you will receive an email indicating whether or not items on your account were renewed. If you are unsure of the status of your check-outs, you can always log in to your account or call the library to inquire.

An item will NOT automatically renew if:

    • Another library user has requested it.
    • The item has reached its maximum number of renewals.
    • Your account is blocked due to maximum overdue items, lost items, or unpaid charges over $10.
    • Your account is expired. (Please visit the library to renew your account.)
    • The item is a digital item through Overdrive/Libby.
    • The item was loaned through SRCS, Indiana’s Statewide Remote Circulation Service, not Evergreen.

If you would prefer to renew an item early, log in to your account to renew online or bring the item to the library and ask one of the staff members to renew it for you.

Items may be returned at any Evergreen library. When returning to Centerville Public Library, books may be returned in the drop box in the alley behind the library. DVDs and VHS tapes should be returned in the separate audio-visual drop box, also located behind the library.

The Centerville Public Library has eliminated daily overdue fines, including overdue fines accrued in the past. Please note that patrons are still financially responsible for lost or damaged items, as well as collection fees.

We still expect our patrons to return library materials on or before the due date so that other members of the community can access them.

Patrons who do not return library materials will have their accounts blocked if they have 15 items overdue or when an item is 28 days overdue. Materials that are 28 days overdue will be considered “lost” and replacement charges will be assessed to the patron’s account. These charges will be removed if the materials are returned. However, patrons who wait too long to bring materials back may be referred to a collection agency and a non-negotiable $10 fee will be assessed to cover costs the library incurs pursuing collection action.

For the donation of physical materials to the library, such as DVDs, books, equipment, etc., please call in to let library staff know what you intend on donating. If the donated materials are deemed acceptable by library staff, please follow these instructions: Small donations of books and DVDs should be left with the front desk. For large donations, the library staff will direct you to the drop-off location.

All donated materials are subject to inspection and, if found to be unneeded in the library’s collections for whatever reason, will be either returned (if requested), recycled, or given to the Friends of the Centerville-Center Township Public Library to sell at their quarterly book sale.

All donated money shall be put in the library’s Gift and Memorial Fund. If the funds were left as a bequest to the library, these funds shall be put in a separate memorial fund to be spent as requested by the donating party. If there were no obligation/requests associated with the bequest, the funds shall be placed in the general memorial fund to be spent on capital expenditures only. If the funds were given to the library, these funds shall be placed in the general gift fund to be spent at the discretion of the director.
